That's My Sundae

2-6 8+ 15-30m

That's My Sundae is a quick, simple card game that is a lot of fun to play.  You craft delicious ice cream sundaes over the course of 3 rounds, and the player that obtains the most points over the course of those 3 rounds is the winner of all sundaes!

Thats My Sundae 04Box and Components

The box is small in size great for travel and is a sturdy card board.  The rule book is very simple and explains the rules very quickly.  There are 100 cards in the game that consists of: cones (24 cards ranging from 1, 2, and 4 points), ice cream scoop (24 scoop cards that range from 1, 2, and 4 points), toppings (24 cards that range from 1, 2, and 4 points) as well as action cards that can be played against your opponents such as: broken cone (2 cards), melted scoop (2 cards), ants (2 cards), locked sundae (4 cards), steal (7 cards), brain freeze (4 cards), and That's My Sundae (7 cards). The cards are also color coded to help simplify the game as well (cones and broken cones are blue, ice cream and melted ice cream yellow, toppings and ants are red, and basic actions are grey).

The card stock quality is about average and has a glossy coating that should help protect the cards. The artwork on the cards are very cartooney and should easily appeal to children.

Mechanics

As previously stated, this game is played over the course of 3 rounds.  In the instruction booklet, it has it broken down how to finish a round based on specific player counts.  In a 2 player game you have to complete 4 sundaes; in a 3-5 player game, you have to complete 3 sundaes; and in a 6 player game, you have to complete 2 sundaes.  A completed sundae consists of 1 cone, 1 scoop, 1 topping.  Each component of the sundae has different point values on it ranging from 1 to 4 points but watch your opponents may claim your sundae as their own with a steal card! At the end of each round you will add up the points on the sundaes that were in play, including uncompleted ones.

Game Setup

The cards are shuffled and eight cards are dealt to each player; these cards are the players hand. The rest of the cards become the deck set in the center of the table.

Thats My Sundae 06Player Turn

A turn consists of playing 2 cards such as playing a sundae component card or an action card or you can discard cards face up to draw back up your hand. Your turn ends once you draw your hand back up to 8 cards.  In order to play component sundae cards, they must have a place to be played.  A scoop of ice cream can not be played without a cone, a topping can't be played without a scoop of ice cream.  However, you can also play action cards that could allow you to steal sundae components from your opponents.  If you steal an ice cream scoop from an opponent and had a topping on it, you can claim the ice cream scoop as your own, and your opponent must move their topping to another free ice cream scoop or discard that topping card. As soon as the required number of sundae's have been completed in that round, game play ends and points are calculated.

End Game

After the third round, add up the totals from the three rounds, and whomever has the most points wins. No tie breakers are listed, but I would say the tied players share the victory since this is a light, fun game.

Final Thoughts

This game is a lot of fun! I hope to play this game some time with my niece and nephew they would love this game! We are definitely a family that loves ice cream; my boyfriend believes everyone has a separate stomach just for ice cream.  This game is such a light weight game that will make a great travel game or filler game.

As of date of writing this article, the publisher is also donating $1-2 from every copy of the game sold on their website to  My Block My Hood My City's Explorer's Program, which helps youth in Chicago. Not only is the game a lot of fun, buying a copy also helps support the youth.
